PACKAGING
Purveyors Kitchen will help guide you through the process of choosing the right packaging for your brand and product.
CONTAINERS: THE BASICS
The bottle, its shape, size, labeling and its story are often as important as what’s inside. They entice the customer to pick up your product. They reflect your culinary message. Consider the following when choosing your package:

CONTAINERS
We’re experts on industry standards; let us assist you in selecting the shape and size appropriate for your product. If you like something beyond our stock items, we can order it for you.
caps & lids
We stock black caps for all of the containers we offer. Other colors or finishes are available upon request.
neckbands
For bottles and jars of all shapes and sizes, neckbands add safety and value to your product. PK stocks glossy black and a variety of other colors for some bottles; other color options may be available upon request. Custom-designed neckbands make for a unique package and help differentiate your product. To learn more about custom neckbands or colors, please visit Stanwell West or Templock.
capsules
This finishing element is an alternative safety precaution and adds perceived value. Capsules come in many sizes and colors, hot foil stamping, tear tabs and air holes. They are printable for custom designs, enhancing the look of your product. PK stocks glossy black capsules. For more information about custom capsules please visit Enoplastic USA.
LABELING: THE BASICS
Your label not only communicates your brand and tells your story but also contains elements required by law to inform the consumer about the product, ingredients, nutritional information and potential allergens. Here are the basics on label design:
TRADEMARK
A trademark is a registered identity consisting of a distinctive sign or indicator used to identify that a product or service originates from a unique source. While it is not required to register your brand, it is helpful to make sure that your brand does not infringe on another company’s trademark. To learn more about trademarks or to research registered trademarks, go to the US Patent and Trademark Office.
PRODUCT INFORMATION
An FDA compliant ingredients statement, allergen statement and net weight declaration will be provided for each product that we produce at Purveyors Kitchen. PK will provide a nutrition facts panel for your product as part of our test batch or development package.
UPC BARCODE
A UPC barcode allows an item’s identification to be captured quickly and accurately. Each barcode is specific to one product and its manufacturer or distributor. If you wish to utilize a UPC Barcode, we recommend purchasing one for your product from one of the following sources:
BUYABARCODE.COM
nationwidebarcode.com
gs1.org (for a unique GS1 company prefix for major chains)
LABEL REVIEWS AND APPROVAL
The FDA is responsible for ensuring that foods sold in the United States are safe, wholesome and properly labeled. Regulations governing product labeling are found in Title 21 of the Code of Federal Regulations (21 CFR 101) and the FDA Food Labeling Guide.
We will work with you and your graphic designer to ensure each label’s compliance and production readiness through a mandatory in-house compliance review and materials test.

NEW CO-PACKER FAQS
What’s the first step?
Read the Co-Packing Information Packet which will answer many of your questions. Complete the Co-Packing Questionnaire (you can also complete it online via the contact form) and the Non-Disclosure Agreement. A free consultation concerning your recipe or product idea can be arranged after these documents are received.
How much will it cost to bottle my product?
There are a variety of factors that determine the cost including ingredients, container, fill weight, kettle yield and so on. In order to give you an accurate quote, we must see and evaluate your recipe and product samples, both of which are protected by a Non-Disclosure Agreement.
What is the timeframe for getting a product produced?
There are many factors that affect the time frame for getting a product bottled, including turning your recipe into a formulation, finalizing your product nutritionals, label design and printing, ingredient sourcing and availability and the production schedule. Therefore, the journey of each recipe, from concept to bottled product, is unique. For details download the Co-Packer Information Packet.
Do I need to provide a production formula?
No. We can work with any type of recipe you have. We offer a product development service at a reasonable price to help convert your home or restaurant recipe to a production formula. We will, however, require samples of your product in the proper size that you want to produce along with other important information. Please see the Co-Packing Info Packet.
What is the minimum first run?
A minimum run is one batch or product per recipe, which ranges from 50 cases (pasta sauce) to 200 cases (5oz woozy) depending on the size of the bottle. A case is 12 bottles or jars.
